Ogunkanmi Seeks Stronger Youth Development, Social Infrastructure As Osun Marks 35th Anniversary

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) House of Representatives candidate for Ayedire, Iwo and Olaoluwa Federal Constituency, Hon. Gbenga Ogunkanmi Abidemi, has congratulated the people of Osun State on the 35th anniversary of the creation of the state.

Ogunkanmi, who served as Deputy Chief Whip of the Osun State House of Assembly during the 7th Assembly, made the call in a statement issued in Osogbo on Thursday to commemorate the anniversary.

He urged the state government and relevant stakeholders to prioritise the provision of social infrastructure and expand youth development programmes to improve the wellbeing and economic prospects of residents.

According to him, “As Osun marks 35 years, we must look beyond celebration and reflect deeply on how to build a state that works for every citizen. Social infrastructure such as quality schools, functional healthcare facilities, good roads, water supply and other basic amenities must receive greater attention.

“Our youths are the strength and future of Osun. We need deliberate and sustainable programmes that will equip them with relevant skills, create employment opportunities and support entrepreneurship. Youth development should not be treated as a political slogan but as a serious investment in the future of our state.”

Ogunkanmi called on political leaders, traditional rulers, private-sector stakeholders and citizens to work together towards building an Osun where young people have opportunities to succeed.

He said the 35th anniversary provided an opportunity to renew the collective commitment to peace, inclusive development and a prosperous future for the state.

He stressed the need for greater investment in education, skills acquisition, employment opportunities, healthcare and other essential social amenities, particularly in rural communities.

The ADC candidate also urged residents to use the anniversary to reflect on the progress recorded by the state while identifying areas requiring renewed attention and collective action.

He expressed optimism that purposeful leadership, inclusive governance and sustained investment in human capital and infrastructure would position Osun for greater development in the years ahead.

Ogunkanmi said, “Today, we proudly celebrate the creation of Osun State and reflect on the journey that has shaped our dear state over the years.

“This anniversary is a time to honour the vision, courage, sacrifices and enduring legacy of our founding fathers, whose efforts laid the foundation upon which the Osun of today was built.

“From our rich cultural heritage and historic landmarks to the resilience, creativity and determination of our people, Osun remains a land of great potential and promise.

“As we celebrate this important milestone, let us renew our commitment to peace, unity, good governance, inclusive development and the prosperity of every citizen. May we continue to preserve our heritage while building a brighter and more prosperous future for generations to come.

“Happy Osun State Creation Anniversary to all Osun indigenes and residents.

“May our dear state continue to grow, prosper and remain a beacon of peace, culture and development. Long live Osun State!”

He wished the people of Osun State continued peace, prosperity and progress as the state marks its 35th anniversary.
