The leadership crisis rocking the Action Alliance (AA) may be approaching a resolution following moves by Adekunle Rufai Omoaje to withdraw his appeal challenging the leadership of Chief Kenneth Udeze, with the Supreme Court reportedly fixing November 16, 2026, for proceedings on the matter.
According to a statement issued by the Action Alliance Media Directorate on behalf of Udeze, Omoaje filed a notice of withdrawal dated September 28, 2026, seeking to discontinue Appeal No. SC/CV/162/2024 before the apex court.
The appeal arose from the protracted dispute over the authentic national leadership of the party.
The statement said the planned withdrawal could pave the way for the conclusion of the legal battle, which has generated disagreements over the party's leadership and representation.
It added that the dispute followed an earlier decision of the Court of Appeal in Appeal No. CA/ABJ/CV/922/2022, which, according to the party's media directorate, affirmed the validity of the National Executive Committee led by Udeze.
Omoaje subsequently approached the Supreme Court to challenge the appellate court's decision.
### Party anticipates legal resolution
The Action Alliance Media Directorate described the proposed withdrawal as a significant development in the party's efforts to resolve its leadership dispute.
It maintained that the conclusion of the appeal would strengthen Udeze's claim to the national chairmanship and enable the party to focus on its political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The statement also called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to comply with applicable court decisions and recognise the party leadership established by valid judicial pronouncements.
The party's media directorate accused the electoral commission of failing to give adequate recognition to the leadership it considers legitimate. However, the allegation was not independently verified.
### Supreme Court decision awaited
The statement urged party members and supporters nationwide to remain calm, law-abiding and focused on the party's activities, while cautioning against competing claims to its leadership.
However, the withdrawal notice and the date reportedly fixed for proceedings do not, on their own, establish that the Supreme Court has dismissed the appeal or issued a fresh judgment on the dispute.
The legal position will depend on the court's formal proceedings and any consequential orders it makes.
The Supreme Court proceedings are reportedly scheduled for November 16, 2026.
The statement was signed by the Action Alliance Media Directorate on behalf of Chief Kenneth Udeze, whom it described as the party's authentic national chairman.
Editorial note: Before publication, confirm the November 16 hearing date and the status of the withdrawal notice from the court record. Also verify the exact terms of the Court of Appeal judgment and any subsequent INEC action. These checks will help prevent the report from presenting the party's position as an established Supreme Court ruling.
